If last summer was the summer of the back yard, this has been the summer of the paint. I have basically become a professional painter as the transition began from a VERY wooden house, to a more modern, cleaned up space. Check me out in my respirator.
So, here comes a LOT of before and after photos.
We'll start with the little coat closet between the entry and the "red tile bathroom." I painted the trim as well as the closets and wood work in this room to our trim color, and then the walls with an expirimental color. We'll see if it lasts. . .
Before:
After:
The front hall: I began the transition with the trim in here and have done about half the honey oak trim to the beautiful vanilla color. I wish I had a before picture of the door with all the brown wood, but I can't find one today. Here is the trim finished but with the old curtains from the past owners. . . .
Before:
and After: With the newly installed shutters. It looks SO MUCH CLEANER! We love this so far!
The Archways:
There are three archways like this in our home. They are nice wide doorways but the kids are beating them up pretty bad. The sheetrock was beginning to fall and chip in places, and we though they would just look so much nicer trimmed out. So, that process happened this summer. I had a carpenter that came to help me with that. Here is before:
You can see the old curtain situation in the living room in this picture. Would you believe that ruffle on the top was at least 10 yards of fabric?
During:
And After hours of sanding, priming, and painting. I also changed the curtain rod to a new one with ring details, painted the trim in the living room, the window frame, and the walls a lovely soft green color. It came out so pretty!
The view into the dining room before:
And After: Ahhh. . .
and finally, the dining room:
Here are the windows as they were. Also, large, heavy, PINK curtains.
I started with this sideboard makeover, as you may remember. . .
And then added our new chairs. Picked up all 8 for under $100 and given a makeover into the same color. We LOVE them! They add a touch of fun. Also, painted the trim and had the windows framed in wood before the shutters arrived.
and most recently, the shutters! Hallelujah! Goodbye curtains!!! The dining room is officially DONE! Check and check. That feels so good!
Next up, our bedroom. The shutters arrived as well! We LOVE them and having them hung is starting to make my wrists itch to paint the walls! They'll be so pretty against a lovely, light blue, don't you think?
And so there you have it! That's what I've been up to during nap time this summer. But don't worry! There's still the bedroom, my bathroom, the family room, laundry room, the rest of the entry, the coat closet, and dare I even say it, the KITCHEN to tackle in the near future. We LOVE our fixer upper and giving her a lovely face lift!
